ABOUT THE BLOCK PARTY
The OEV Block Party is a free annual street party that is aimed at creating relationships and engagement within the Old East Village. In July each year we select a street to close down for an afternoon and invite local organizations, businesses, community initiatives, and arts and cultural producers to share their talents and opportunities with OEV residents. This event tries to capture all that Old East Village is by inviting all members of the community to participate and by offering activities and entertainment that is fun, free, and educational. Through this event we hope to contribute to OEV by nurturing inter-community relationships, promoting local businesses and organizations, and stimulating the arts and cultural community.
The Block Party has developed out of an organic process of community building that started well before the idea was actually birthed. Many of the groups and organizations listed on the About OEV Page have contributed greatly to the social and economic development in Old East for many years. An emphasis on locally oriented and community driven projects have been at the centre of what these organizations do and have impacted the neighbourhood in positive ways. The OEV Block Party was inspired by the strong sense of community and socially conscious initiatives that are embedded in the history of the neighbourhood.
